Specialty Psychiatric Programs

For patients in crisis and in need of psychiatric intervention, Eagleville has two specialized, secure units – one for patients who arrive with both acute psychiatric and substance use disorders and one for the older population who have primary psychiatric disorders.

Acute Inpatient Psychiatric Care and Addiction – Stabilization for Mental Health and Addiction Crisis

For patients in crisis due to a combination of a mental health disorder and addiction, Eagleville offers a specialized, secure unit for stabilization and early treatment. This program is led by a psychiatrist with experience in treating addiction and co-occurring disorders. Each patient is seen by the psychiatrist daily. The unit offers round-the-clock nursing, daily counseling, and social work services. Detoxification is available, if necessary.

The length of stay will vary depending upon each patient’s needs.

Is This Program for Me?

During the admissions process, we review each person’s medical, psychiatric, and substance use history to determine if this program is the best for the individual.

What to Expect in This Program?

Daily Programming, Counseling Options, and Recovery Services

While in our care, our patients have access to comforting, therapeutic group activities and special programs such as art therapy, pet therapy, individual sessions with staff, visits with family and friends, appropriate life-skills training and education, and more.

Treatment Team

A highly trained, multidisciplinary team is available to provide care to each of our patients as needed. Medical, psychiatric, and nursing staff provide comprehensive medical and psychiatric care. Clinical coordinators, social workers, therapists, and case managers provide daily programming and counseling expertise. Members of the unit’s multi-disciplinary team coordinate activities that enhance a patient’s well-being and help the person develop a better understanding about their co-occurring illnesses. The team also includes Certified Peer Specialists (CPS), who are individuals living successfully in recovery, who share a common lived-experience with the patient, and who can be vital in providing guidance and support to the patient along the way.

Treatment Planning

Throughout treatment, social workers work with each patient to prepare an achievable treatment plan individualized to that patient. Substance use history, significant medical issues, mental health disorders, criminal justice involvement, or other socioeconomic challenges are considered when developing the plan. This ensures that all issues can be treated concurrently. We review the treatment plan and update it as treatment changes and progresses.

Aftercare Planning

From the start of a person’s stay in the Acute Unit, our social workers meet with the patient to develop unique and comprehensive aftercare plans that will go into effect once the crisis or acute situation has been managed. This plan is individualized and tailored to each patient’s needs.

The aftercare plan could include remaining at Eagleville in a variety of treatment options, or making referrals to community-based treatment, such as psychiatric or medical services, recovery or Halfway Houses, 12-Step Groups, and/or Certified Peer Specialists.

Older Adult Behavioral Health Program

For patients aged 50 and older who have a psychiatric disorder, we offer an Older Adult Behavioral Health unit. For these patients, who have a primary diagnosis of a psychiatric disorder, the goal is to stabilize them and return them to their optimal level of functioning outside the hospital. If a patient is also misusing substances, the patient may go through detoxification and be prepared for the next phase of treatment in one of the addiction programs. We provide round-the-clock nursing and highly focused, integrated care for the patients in this secure unit. This program offers daily counseling, activities, and social work services. It is led by an experienced psychiatrist, who meets with patients daily.

The length of stay will vary depending on each patient’s needs.

What to Expect

Daily Programming, Counseling Options, and Recovery Services

While in our care, our patients have access to comforting, therapeutic group activities and special programs such as pet therapy, individual sessions with staff, visits with family and friends, age-appropriate life-skills training and education, and more.

Treatment Team

A dedicated and highly trained multidisciplinary team provides care to each of our patients. They are specifically trained and attuned to the unique needs of older adults. The psychiatric, nursing, and medical staff work towards patient stabilization. Our counselors provide daily programming and counseling expertise, while case managers develop aftercare plans.

Treatment Planning

Our treatment team develops a personalized treatment plan that addresses the immediate needs of each patient. For all patients, the plan includes consideration of the patient’s age, level of competency, ability to function independently, medical history, and mental health disorders. For the patients who have been misusing substances, the treatment plan also includes consideration of substance use history and other chronic problems associated with addiction, such as depression and anxiety. We work with the patient or designated individual, if necessary, to develop the plan.

Aftercare Planning

Once a patient is stabilized, our case managers work with the patient to develop a unique and comprehensive aftercare plan individualized and tailored to the patient. For patients with psychiatric disorders, the focus is to enable the patients to attain optimal functioning within their communities. For the patients who have been misusing substances, it can include making referrals to other community-based treatment including psychiatric and medical services, residential substance use treatment, or other recovery support services.
