Marion Shapiro

Marion was a wonderful, vibrant, energetic person who was thoroughly dedicated to Eagleville Hospital. Marion joined the Board of Directors on April 26, 1983. Marion participated on many Committees throughout her years of service, but the Joint Conference Committee was, by far, her favorite. She loved figuring out ways to better help Eagleville patients and was way before her time in considering various methods of treatment. She held the position of Committee Chair, and was also elected Hospital Chair from 1989-1992.

In 1992, after the death of her husband, Murray “Jim” Shapiro, who was also a member of the Board of Directors, Marion founded the “Shapiro Family Fund” as a loving tribute to her husband. This Fund, celebrating its 35th year, is still in existence today and is managed by Dr. Jon Shapiro and his Family. The Fund primarily focuses on patient education as a means to assist patients in returning to a normal life. Because of the generosity of Marion and her family, countless lives have been changed. Over the years, The Fund has provided computers, software, training books, etc., and has also named recipients to the “Jim Shapiro Memorial Scholarship”, which provides opportunities for a college education.

From time to time, Eagleville Hospital receive letters from previous scholarship recipients thanking the Shapiro Family for the opportunities afforded them, and say that the education helped them obtain meaningful employment, and allowed them to live full, normal lives.

Marion stayed on the Board until 2009, when her health prevented her attending meetings. At the Annual Board of Directors meeting that year, Marion was unanimously elected to the Honorary Board for her life-long dedication to Eagleville.

On February 28, 2017, of Wyncote, PA. Beloved wife of the late Murray “Jim” Shapiro. Loving mother of Michael (Diane) Shapiro, Susan (Don) Siegel and Dr. Jon (Dr. Babette Zemel) Shapiro. Sister of the late Arthur “Nick” (the late Janice) Goldman and devoted grandmother of 8 grand-children and 2 great-grand-daughters. Relatives and friends are invited to Services, Friday 11:00 A.M, JOSEPH LEVINE AND SONS MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 4737 Street Road, Trevose. Interment Roosevelt Memorial Park. Following Services the family will be returning to the residence of Dr. Jon Shapiro and Dr. Babette Zemel. Contributions in her memory may be made to Eagleville Hospital.
